FHC President John Freedman Presents at the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans Conference

On November 18, the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans (MAHP) hosted its Annual Health Policy Conference, where FHC President John Freedman presented key findings from MAHP’s Re-Examining the Health Care Cost Drivers and Trends in the Commonwealth: A Review of State Reports, a white paper authored by FHC. Following this presentation, Dr. Freedman moderated a lively expert panel discussion about health care cost drivers and solutions for reform. Dr. Freedman posed the question of whether price transparency is enough to address the major cost drivers observed in the Massachusetts market, and the panelists shared their insights on the sometimes differing information needs of patients and policymakers, and need for transparency in both the price and value of health care services. The distinguished panel included Stuart Altman of the Health Policy Commission and Brandeis University; Sarah Emond from the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review; Paul Hattis from Tufts University Medical School; and Karen Tseng from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
