Health Policy Commission Releases Cost and Market Impact Review of Proposed Hospital Merger

On February 19, 2014, the Health Policy Commission (HPC) released a report detailing its review of the proposed acquisition of South Shore Hospital and Harbor Medical Associates by Partners HealthCare System. In this final report, the HPC examined the effects of such a merger, including the potential savings that could result from care coordination, as well as the cost impacts and effects on quality and access to care. This cost and market impact review (CMIR) of the proposed merger was the first of its kind in Massachusetts and in the nation. Freedman HealthCare, along with other health care experts, provided the HPC with analysis and support for this groundbreaking evaluation. Access the report here.
