MA Attorney General Releases 2015 Cost Trends Report

Today, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey released the latest in a series of reports on health care cost trends. Beginning in 2010, this series of examinations and reports has highlighted, among other findings, major price disparities among providers that are unrelated to quality of care, patient complexity or other factors.

Today’s report is the first to focus on behavioral health. Among the main findings: (1) care coordination and insurance reimbursement for behavioral health services are more complex than for other medical services, and (2) behavioral health data lags behind the data for other areas of health expenditure, resulting in challenges to efforts to measure and improve behavioral health services, including the quality of behavioral health care. The report concludes with several recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders.

As with the earlier cost trends reports, Freedman HealthCare provided assistance to the Office of the Attorney General for this report.
